# Solution and Types of Solution

During titration, different solution having constituents ratio  of compounds are mixed and made solution. There are three types of solution in general.

1. Normal solution: The solution which is prepared by dissolving 1 gram equivalent of the solute in 1 liter of the solution is called normal solution.
2. Semi-Normal solution: The solution which is prepared by dissolving one half of the gram equivalent of the solute in 1 litre solution is called semi-normal solution.
3. Decinormal solution: The solution which is prepared by dissolving (1/10)th of the gram equivalent of the solute in 1 liter of solution is called deci-normal solution.

Normality factor: It is the ratio of weight taken to weight to be taken.
$$i.e., \text{ Normality Factor (f)} = \frac{\text{ weight taken }}{\text{weight to be taken}}$$
So, Actual normality = Normality × Normality factor

Normality Equation: The equation which is used to determine the strength of unknown solution is called normality equation. It’s mathematical equation is:
Volume of acid × Normality of acid = Volume of Base × Normality of base
