Different Types of Thermodynamic Processes

The operation by which a system changes from one state to another state is called a process. This change in state may include the change in energy as well as change in matter. There are four  different types  of thermodynamics processes known till date. These are given below.

1. Isothermal process: It is the process in which temperature of the system remains constant. So, change in temperature (ΔT) = 0. Such type of process can be achieved by placing the system in thermostat (thermos flask).

2. Isobaric process: It the process in which the pressure of the system remains constant. So, change in pressure (ΔP) = 0. Such type of process can be achieved by carrying out in a vessel which is provided with the weightless and frictionless piston.

3. Isochoric process: It is the process in which the volume of a system remains constant. So, change in volume (ΔV) = 0. Such type of process can be achieved by carrying out in a vessel which is provided with a fixed piston.

4. Adiabatic process: It is the process in which the system does not exchange heat with the surrounding. So, change in quantity of heat (ΔQ) = 0. Such type of system can be achieved by isolating the vessel from its surrounding.
